1. Kapchorwa’s abundant waterfalls
Imagine breathtaking waterfalls cascading down the foothills of Mount Elgon, surrounded by lush green hills and coffee farms. Kapchorwa is the perfect place for hiking, abseiling down cliffs, or just soaking in epic views. Plus, you can interact with locals on a coffee or honey tour and learn how these valuable commodities are grown! 2. Semuliki National Park
Tucked away in the wild west of Uganda, Semuliki is a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 400 species. But that’s not all—it’s got crazy bubbling hot springs where you can boil an egg in seconds. Throw in chimpanzee sightings, forest elephants, and butterflies you’ve never seen before, and you've got yourself an adventure!
3. Lake Bunyonyi
This lake is a hidden gem with 29 islands dotting its surface. It’s perfect for those who want a peaceful paddle in a dugout canoe or a hike along the terraced hills. The vibe here is super chill, but the scenery is nothing short of breathtaking. Bonus points for the chance to hang out with the Bakiga and Batwa tribes.
Tip: Do a trekking off-the-beaten path with Gorilla Highlands.
4. Kidepo Valley National Park
This is for the hardcore safari enthusiasts. Way out in the rugged northeast, Kidepo is the place for raw, untouched wilderness. Think endless savannahs, lions lounging on rocky outcrops, and huge herds of buffalo roaming free. It's Africa at its wildest, and the best part? You’ll practically have the park to yourself.
Tip: Stay at the new Community Eco Camp of our partner in sustainable travel Kara-Tunga.
5. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Want to see rhinos up close? Ziwa is the only place in Uganda where you can track white rhinos on foot. It’s a totally unique experience, and there’s nothing quite like walking alongside these massive beasts in their natural habitat. There’s also plenty of birdlife and cool night safaris if you’re looking for more.
6. Ssese Islands (Lake Victoria)
If you’re craving island vibes, head to the Ssese Islands. This chain of 84 islands on Lake Victoria has everything: white sandy beaches, laid-back fishing villages, and a peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for unwinding after a hectic adventure. You can go swimming, boating, or just lounge around with a cold drink and watch the sun set over the lake.
Tip: Stay at the tranquil Banda Island Resort owned by Deven and Petra.
7. Mount Moroto
Love hiking? Skip the touristy mountains and head to Mount Moroto in Karamoja. The trails here are rugged and wild, offering sweeping views of the savannah and distant ranges. Plus, you’ll get a chance to immerse yourself in the culture of the Karamojong, one of Uganda’s most unique communities.
8. Lake Mutanda
Tucked between the volcanoes of southwestern Uganda, Lake Mutanda is one of those places that feels like a dream. Canoe across its calm waters, hike through the surrounding hills, or visit the Batwa pygmy villages nearby. It’s the perfect spot to recharge after gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
9. Mabira Forest Reserve
Just a short drive from Kampala, Mabira Forest is a nature lover’s playground. You can go zip-lining through the treetops, explore the trails on foot or by mountain bike, and spot all kinds of wildlife, from monkeys to exotic birds. It’s one of those places that feels like a secret, even though it’s right near the city.
10. Nyero Rock paintings
For a dose of history, head to the ancient Nyero Rock Paintings in eastern Uganda. These Iron Age drawings give you a glimpse into the lives of Uganda’s earliest inhabitants. It’s a quick and fascinating stop for anyone into archaeology and mystery.
