CAVE MUSEUM VISIT

EXPLORE a sebei ancestral home

At a 20 minutes’ walk from Home Friends, Poul and his father Semu started a museum in their family’s ancestral cave. Ancient cooking utensils, war items and other artefacts are displayed. You can learn how to grind millet, sing a cultural song or play an indigenous game. Common themes in Poul and Semu’s stories are marriage, food and the transformation from childhood to adulthood. The Cave Museum visit gives unique insights into the history and culture of the Sebei people.

Meet your guide

I am Poul Chemutai, a young tour guide based on Mount Elgon. My passion is in reviving the Sebei warrior culture.

In our Cave Museum, at the home where I was born and raised, you will learn about the history of the Sebei people. You can also cook in the traditional warrior way. And discover other cultural treasures.

I work with a committed and creative team who love to see you smile. One of the team members is my father Semu, who used to live in our cave from time to time.

We are looking forward to giving you a memorable experience. And wish you to gain insights on the differences with your culture!

Regards,

Poul
