For more than a year, I had the privilege of mentoring a young Belgian runner as he created a documentary about Kapchorwa's remarkable running culture. Watching the first draft reminded me that the strongest stories are rarely about medals alone. They are about forests, communities, resilience and the people who quietly shape extraordinary places.
We planned to stay in Kapchorwa for just a few days, but quickly realised this mountain town deserves much more time. Through guided hikes, trail running, mountain biking and meaningful conversations with local guides, we discovered that the true magic of Uganda's Mount Elgon highlands lies not only in the landscapes, but in the people who call them home.
